The leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Mmusi Maimane, has written a letter to the African National Congress’s (ANC) leader Cyril Ramaphosa requesting an urgent meeting to discuss how they can best work together to tackle the drought crisis in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape.
With day zero now estimated to hit the Western Cape by 12 April 2018, questions whether this water crisis could have been averted in 2011 are surfacing.
Mr. André Fourie, then councilor of the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) for Cape Town, addressed a warning to the DA led city council on the 1st September 2011. He not only warned the council about the water crisis but made practical, workable suggestions to fix the problem, such as the sinking of boreholes, desalination and the damming of mountain water that ends up in the ocean.
The DA asking the ANC for help with the drought crisis!?
Question is… would there have been a water crisis if the @Our_DA listened to the @VFPlus back in 2011 when they warned the DA to start the sinking of boreholes & desalination? #SevenYearsOfReactiveGovernment! #DayZero? pic.twitter.com/FqJlBRMVln
