Public pressure against pres. Jacob Zuma and the African National Congress (ANC) government is clearly growing in momentum and the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) will continue to support all constructive initiatives of political parties and civil organizations to get rid of the president, says Dr. Corné Mulder, chief whip of the FF Plus.
Dr. Mulder says the FF Plus will therefore support the attempt of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) to obtain a court order to force the speaker of parliament to allow the motion of no confidence in pres. Zuma to be held by means of a secret ballot.
He says there has been several spontaneous actions in the last weeks in the form of civilian marches by SaveSA, cooperation between political parties and the entry of church- and spiritual leaders who all work together to put pressure on the ANC to get rid of the president.
“Thabo Makgoba, the Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and others have already consulted with each other about the necessity of national talks in the form of a Codesa about the matter.
“This supports the call that the FF Plus recently made on church and spiritual leaders to take guidance where the moral decay in the ANC must be addressed.
“There is no doubt that ANC members of parliament thoroughly realize they will be committing political suicide if they vote against pres. Zuma in an open ballot.
“If the president was convinced that he had the loyalty and full support of all ANC members of parliament, he would certainly not have deemed it necessary to oppose the court application for a secret ballot,” says Dr. Mulder.
